Teresa Dybvig teaching a musicianship clinic

Teresa Dybvig

Welcome to my new internet home! I am a pianist with a number of degrees and a good bit of performing experience. You can read my full bio at The Well-Balanced Pianist, home of my dream program. I created it in 2003 to bring groups of pianists together to learn piano through integrated study in musicianship, healthy piano technique, bodywork, mindset, and pedagogy in a supportive, interactive community. Of course you can also learn more about The Well-Balanced Pianist and any upcoming programs while you’re on the site.

My own teaching integrates all those approaches. I draw from my studies with wonderful artists, the Taubman Approach to piano technique, and the whole-body movement disciplines Iyengar Yoga and the Feldenkrais Method. I keep up on my reading about pedagogy, and work with materials developed by experts in pedagogy and cognitive psychology to help people with their practice and performance mindset.

Are you looking for a piano teacher? I enjoy teaching many different kinds of students. At this time, I teach committed amateur adult pianists, serious high school pianists, pianists who concertize regularly, church musicians, jazz performers, private piano teachers, college and graduate students in performance degrees, and college piano teachers. I am particularly interested in teaching piano teachers, and helping them improve their own teaching. Piano teachers who work with me and other Well-Balanced Pianist faculty are invited to participate in The Well-Balanced Pianist Teacher Training Program.

When I am not at the piano, I like to be with plants. I especially love native plants, and like to find them in the wild and help people grow them at home and work.

Please contact me if you are interested in having lessons with me in Stony Brook (Long Island, NY) or Chicago. Please read here if you are interested in online lessons.
